Nitinol implant for Vertebral Compression Fractures

About

SpineAlign’s Vertelift™ is a Nitinol implant for the minimally-invasive treatment of Vertebral Compression Fractures (VCFs). VCFs are a common result of osteoporosis especially in post-menopausal women, causing kyphosis (curvature of the spine), which compromises the chest cavity leading to pulmonary, GI and cardiac decompensation. It is a third generation VCF device - vertebroplasty needles and Kyphoplasty balloons being first and second generation technologies. The Vertelift™ has advantages over these devices in that it provides active support immediately, once it is implanted and can be used with both cement and osteoinductive bone fillers. The system also has a pedicle screw that can be used with the Vertelift™ device to facilitate posterior fixation. The device has been implanted in over 250 patients. It is CE marked, and is ready to launch in Europe to fill an outstanding. It has a simple 510(k) path for approval in the U.S. and reimbursement is in place.
